Hoodoo Jodi

I was browsing YouTube for videos on the Jodi Arias trial and stumbled upon a YouTube comment that blew me away. Below is a paraphrase of the comment.

"Hoodoo Jodi's fixing to get death!"

I was like, "NO! Don't you dare equate hoodoo with Jodi Arias!".

But of course the term "hoodoo", as used by the person means "cursed". So he/she is saying that Jodi is cursed, is a living jinx. The person who wrote the comment is probably from the UK as they still use the term 'hoodoo' in it's original meaning.

If you have read my past blogs, the term "hoodoo" is not African, but comes from the Scott-Irish and means means cursed, unlucky. Anything can be a hoodoo. If a person is a hoodoo it originally meant that you should stay away from them lest bad stuff happen to you because that person is a living, walking jinx, curse. Of course with time the term 'hoodoo' began to be applied to the system of folk magic otherwise called root work or conjure work. Interestingly, many old-school worker would deny practicing hoodoo because they know the original meaning of the word, being cursed or unlucky, and they would equate that to black magic or witchcraft.
