There's The Door 2016....Don't Let It Hit You On The Ass On The Way Out!

2016, I'm breaking up with you. I hate you and never want to see you again. I will not cherish the memories and will actively work to forget you.

So New Years Eve will soon be upon us. This new year can't come fast enough as far as I'm concerned. I'm fed up with this year. This has not been a good year for me. I've had problem after problem, issue after issue, and cried more than I've laughed, which is never good. Death has taken so many celebrities this year that it almost reeks of a conspiracy. I even joked with friends that I guessed 2016 is when most celebrities contracts with Satan are coming up for due.

In 2016 I had a nasty spat with an enemy, the first time after a long while that I had to do major enemy work for someone in my actual life. I won the battle but I am pissed that it had to come to that. Believe it or not, I'm an easy guy to get along with and am slow to anger. I admit that once I do get angry, you better watch out. However, I'm also very forgiving and will 99% of the time forgive anyone who has enough courage or character to ask me for forgiveness.

So I had a man who I had known for years do an about face and decide that he was going to destroy my life in order to help himself prosper. This resulted in a battle lasting about 4 months. The result was that I sustained some damage but survived. His entire life has been destroyed. He still has his life, which is pretty much all he has left and all that I was willing to leave him as punishment for what he did to me and put me through.

In 2016 the company I work for at my "day job" almost went under multiple times this year. I almost got let go a couple of times and almost quit once. Now, our future is completely up in the air and I don't even know if I have a job to return to on Monday morning.

In 2016 I had a major falling out with my best friend. I haven't seen her since late September or early October. She has made some decisions with her life that, unknowing to her, will prevent us from going out and having fun in the future. So, honestly, there is nothing on the table for us seeing each other anytime soon. We still occasionally text and communicate through social media.

In 2016 I had major car issues and needed costly repairs.

In 2016 my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. She is currently undergoing chemo and has lost all of her hair.

In 2016 my immediate family began experiencing a certain problem that still threatens to destroy what little bonds are left between us. I can't really clarify it or discuss it further.

In 2016 Hillary screwed over Bernie for the Democratic nomination and as a result Trump was elected President. (Yes, I went there.)

So I've pretty much had it with 2016. This year has been a good-for-nothing piece of shit that needs to be kicked to the curb. Pack your shit and get out!

I know, I know, certain readers may question if I've been crossed up or am under attack by an enemy. There was a problem toward the beginning of 2016 but I keep myself clean and know how to defend myself. From what I hear from other people, my struggles are not unique. Many people have had a horrible year and can't wait until it's over with.

If you have had a not-so-pleasant 2016 then I can't recommend strong enough how you really need to do a thorough cleansing of both your home and self. I would also recommend cleansing anyone who lives with you as well as any pets.

Now, I routinely get emails from people who still have no idea how to cleans their home. So I will take some time to go over how this is done. The ideal time to do this would be tonight (Friday, December 30) or tomorrow (Saturday, December 31). Do not perform this on New Year's Day. You can always wait until after New Years to perform your cleansing but it's bad luck to perform a lot of work on New Year's Day.

General Tips To Perform A House Cleaning

1. Clean the home as normal. This includes sweeping, vacuuming, cleaning the bathroom, taking out the trash, laundry, cleaning windows and mirrors, dusting etc.

2. When it comes to mopping and/or sweeping, that's when you can use some hoodoo. You can use spiritual products such as Chinese Wash, commercial products such as original Pine Sol, or you can brew up some tea using herbs and add the liquid to your mop bucket. If you are sweeping with a broom you can sprinkle down a floor sweep, either bought or prepared yourself.

3. You will sweep, mop or both, starting from the back of the house going to the front.

4. I will wet a rag in the mixture and wipe down my doors, door frames, and window sills as well. I will even wipe down my vents.

5. Burn incense or smudge. Carry it from room to room and waft it good in the air. If you don't want to burn incense or smudge then you can spray spiritual air fresheners or make your own in a spray bottle.

6. Light a white candle. Either one big one and carry it from room to room or you can light a small white candle in each room. Dress it with Uncrossing oil, or another similar oil. Use Olive oil if that's all you got.

7. Pray in each room. I take my Bible with me and pray in each room. It depends as to what I will recite. Sometimes it's the Lord's Prayer, Psalm 23, Psalm 51 or Isaiah 41. Sometimes I just pray using my own words.

8. Place salt in either the 4 main corners of the home or else in every corner of each room. Place a pinch in the center of the room.

9. I will also "seal" all the entrances by making the sign of the cross with Holy Water. Make sure to get any entrance evil might try to come through. I will even seal my mirrors and computer as well.

10. Cleanse yourself. You can do this either last or do it first, it doesn't matter. There are a million ways to cleans yourself. You can take a spiritual bath. You can smoke yourself. You can brush yourself down with a handheld broom, chicken foot, egg, etc. Use whatever method you prefer and what feels right to you.

Since 2016 was crazy-negative I will be using Ammonia to do my house cleansing this year. You can use that if you like or Chinese Wash or Pine Sol, or tea made with Hyssop, Rue, Agrimony, or whatever you want. If you are going to use Ammonia then just make sure you know that a little goes a long way. Only use one cap. Ammonia is so strong that it will strip away everything, even the good with the bad, so don't over do it.

Remember, that after you clean you want to invite the good stuff into your life. I like to conclude my cleaning with something symbolic, like burning Blessing Incense. Sometimes I conclude by burning some Cinnamon on charcoal because Cinnamon is lucky in both love and money.

So the house and self are now clean for the new year. The next step is to prepare for celebrating and for First-Footing (info at the links below).

Because this has been a somber year, I'm not really in the mood for celebration. I will stay home on New Year's Eve, watch some supernatural horror movies, and get buzzzed on pink champagne and eat Milano cookies! I will be having a nice ham dinner, with black eyed peas, cornbread, fried potatoes and greens on New Year's Day, which I am looking forward to!

Wishing All Of My Readers An End To The Madness Of 2016 And A Blessed, Bright And Prosperous 2017!

George Michael, Carrie Fisher, And "Voodoo Death"

We've lost so many celebrities this year that it appears that the Grim Reaper is either getting paid commission or has drunk far too many red bulls. I thought I would share a couple of things. First, I had a premonition that George Michael was going to die. I mentioned it too my friend. I will admit that I never actually said "I believe he is going to die soon". In reality, I talked about my concerns over his health and felt that he was in danger. I'm not a George Michael fan, don't own any of his albums, but did enjoy some of his songs back in the 1980s. This belief that I felt he was in danger just popped into my head while I was waking up one morning shortly after Thanksgiving. I then entertained it every now and then, including the week he died. This would not be the only interesting psychic experience I've had concerning a celebrity.

So literally right before waking this morning I had an interesting dream about Carrie Fisher. Keep in mind that I'm not a fan of Star Wars and have no strong feelings or opinion for or against Carrie Fisher. I really haven't thought much about her over the years.

In the dream I assume I was some sort of reporter. The scene appeared to be a red carpet event. I was behind a small fence and Carrie Fisher was on the other side. I saw her from a short distance and she smiled at me. I asked her if she had anything to say to her fans. She beamed a huge smile and said "Forgive your fellow man. I know I have." Then she touched my shoulder and said that "they" are waiving to her, indicating she had to leave. That was the end of the dream. It's good advice, whether it came from her spirit or from my unconscious.

Debbie Reynold's death came to me by surprise. I got an alert on my iPhone that Debbie was rushed to the emergency room at about 1pm for trough breathing. I immediately thought that this was a psychosomatic anxiety attack brought on by the emotional turmoil of losing Carrie. I was wrong. This was not an anxiety attack. This was an actual stroke.

I personally feel that Debbie Reynolds died from the emotional shock of Carrie's death. I know there are some people out there who claim that you can't die from a "broken heart" but in reality you can. It's similar to what is called "Voodoo Death", where a sudden shock can cause heart and blood issues that may result in death.

The Autopsy Of Jane Doe (2016)

So I spent Christmas Eve getting buzzed on Eggnog and watching "The Autopsy of Jane Doe". It's a really good horror movie that would be appealing to those interested in supernatural horror movies. I'll give the synopsis below but in spoilers just in case my readers want to watch it and don't want anything spoiled for them. I do recommend it for those who enjoy horror films.

A partially buried body of a nude female is found in the basement of a murder scene. The entire occupants of the house have been brutally murdered. The Sheriff takes the woman's corpse to the Coroner and tasks him and his son to find the cause of death before morning. During the autopsy all kinds of strange, supernatural things begin to happen. Inside her intestines they find a cloth with one of her teeth. Drawn on the cloth is a magical seal that appears remarkably similar to the ones contained in "The Black Pullet" or "The 6th and 7th Books of Moses". Who or what is she? Will they survive the night?

As Seen On NBC Nightly News

Tonight on NBC Nightly News a segment aired that featured a Christmas tradition in my state of Oklahoma. That tradition is a local Jeweler's jingle that for most Oklahoman's symbolizes Christmas. In fact, for many of us it's not Christmas-time until we hear this jingle on the radio.

BC Clark is Oklahoma's oldest Jeweler, opening back in 1892, before Oklahoma was even a state. BC Clark's main store is located in downtown Oklahoma City, across the street from the hauntingly famous, Skirvin Hotel, which I have blogged about in the past. There are two other locations located at Penn Square Mall and Shoppes at Northpark. I will share with you in the videos below this Oklahoma Christmas tradition and hopefully you will not be able to get this jingle out of your head!

Merry Christmas And Happy Hanukkah!

So it's that time of the year again. The Winter holidays are upon us. Tonight is Christmas Eve, the time when Santa visits good little Christian boys and girls to deliver presents. Sunset is also the start of Hanukkah, where good little Jewish boys and girls get 8 nights of presents. Tomorrow will be Christmas Day, followed by Boxing Day and Kwanzaa, and concluding with New Years. It's kind of weird how we are all hit at once with a slew of holidays at the end of the year.

Gather you family and friends and hug them tight. Laugh and love and feast and sing and dance. Life is good and precious.

Wishing All Of My Readers A Very Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Holidays, And Joyous Seasons Greetings!

So Cute!

Got this little cute Bellarmine yesterday. Love it! Perfect size to use as a witch bottle and hide.

I've been going through this blog and it's obvious as day that this bitch is 100% phoney, fake, a con.

I will have to go through her fucking entire blog this weekend. Trash like this tends to steal more than just once.

The Winter Solstice And Special Advice For Wiccans and NeoPagans

Wednesday the 21st is the Winter Solstice, the time of year with the shortest amount of daylight and the longest night. It's also the time of year where the sun appears to pause from it's lowering and then from this day forward appears to riser higher in the sky.  The term "solstice" actually means "standstill" and is a reference to this. The Winter Solstice is also the official start of Winter.

Nearly every single culture on this planet has given this time great religious significance. It is often perceived to be "the rebirth of the Sun god", a reference to the pausing of the lowering of the sun and then it's rising movements. Both Pagans and Christians invested heavily into this astronomical observance. For many people this is their favorite time of the year.

Despite the fact that the Pagans may have believed this was the rebirth of the Sun god, things were not all rainbows and roses. The Pagans feared the Winter Solstice. Yes, you read that right. This leads me to the other purpose of this blog entry. I need to explain some things.

The one thing I've noticed among Wiccans and NeoPagans is this obsession with all things Celtic. In fact, the fascination with the Celts is so strong that I've heard repeatedly that Wicca is somehow the survival of Celtic paganism. It's not. In fact, the only thing that Gerald Gardner took from the Celts in order to create Wicca was some of the pre-Christian Celtic holidays. If you actually take a closer look at Wicca you will discover that there is a far stronger Germanic influence.

I've noticed that many Wiccans and some NeoPagans have this bias against the Germanic pagans. I'm not sure if it's from the stereotype of the Germanic pagans as being brutish or savages or the fact that there are some modern Germanic groups that are quite racist. I really don't know the reason why. The Germanic people were instrumental in the development of European culture and civilization and most white people alive today are of Germanic heritage.

What do I mean when I write "Germanic people"? The Germanic tribes were the tribes that arose in the area of modern day Germany, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and Belgium. These tribes then spread mostly northward, eastward, and westward, with some southward expansion.

So two great peoples of pagan Europe where the Celts and the Germanic tribes. The Romans really didn't distinguish between the two. In fact, many of the quotes from Roman historians that you read about in books, articles, and essays on the Celts are actually now believed to have been on the Germanic tribes. What distinguished the two was mainly that the Germanic tribes were more homogeneous. Their languages were very similar. They worshiped the same gods, with possibly only slight variations in names, such as Odin to the Norse and Wodan to the Angles and Saxons. The Celtic tribes were very dissimilar to each other, spoke different languages, and worshiped different gods.

For the Germanic tribes, the Winter Solstice may have been the most important celebration of the year. Each tribe may have called it by a different name but it seems to have been important to each. The Norse called it Yule. That's why Yule is used as a synonym for Christmas to this day.

The pagan Germanic celebration of Yule originally lasted 3 days but was later extended to 12 days. This is where the 12 days of Christmas came from. Yule not only was the celebration of the Winter Solstice but it was also the celebration of the New Year. Yule was a time of feasting, drinking, merry-making and all-around-fun. However, it was also the scariest time of the year. In spirit, Yule was like squashing Halloween and Christmas together to make a brand new holiday.

The 12 days of Yule was a time of celebration but also the scariest time of the year. Just like with the Celtic Samhain, the veil between this world and the next was considered to be at it's thinnest. The spirits of the dead roamed the land. Witches and Alfar (elves) where most active and both could prove quite fatal to humans. Additionally, the king of the gods, Wodan (Odin), from where we get "Wednesday" (Wodan's Day) from, rode through the air with supernatural companions. It was called "The Wild Hunt" and in the form of nocturnal storms it raced through the sky at night. Any unfortunate human in it's path was killed or abducted, never to be seen again. Because of the supernatural threats active during this time, and due to the fact that it was freezing cold outside, most people thought it best to stay indoors. They decorated with evergreens to remind themselves of the promise of the eventual return of the warmth of Spring and drank, dance, feasted and told stories well into the night. All of this would be transformed into Christmas with the coming of Christianity.

Other traditions celebrated at this time that have pagan origins is the Yule log, part of a sacred bonfire believed to ward off evil and possibly imitative magic meant to strengthen the Sun, as well as the feasting on Christmas ham. On Yule, a sacrifice of a boar was given to the fertility god Freyr to ensure bounty and blessings in the coming year. The flesh of the slain boar would be shared and eaten by the community. Interestingly enough, Christmas trees are a modern invention and do not date back to the actual Germanic pagans. However, the Christmas Tree was invented by modern, Christian Germanic people.

So why am I bothering with the history lesson? Well, it's because most of the lore and symbolism associated with the Winter Solstice (and Christmas) that is practiced today ultimately derives from the German tribes. I fell the need to point this out as I've recently seen many Wiccan websites trying to attribute the symbolism of Christmas to the Celts. Not so! It's is thoroughly Germanic in origin. Not only is it Germanic, but the influence of Germanic paganism on Wicca is also very strong as well.

Wicca gets its name from the Old English word "wicca", meaning a male witch. The feminine form is "wicce". Old English is the language of the Anglo-Saxons, a Germanic tribe created from the merger of the Angels and the Saxons. The Wiccan holiday of Yule comes from Germanic paganism. So does Esotre/Ostara, the celebration of the Spring Equinox. Additionally, the Wiccan holiday that is celebrated on August 1st is called either Lughnasadh or Lammas. Lughgnasadh (festival of the god Lugh) come from the Celts. The name Lammas (loaf-mass, a blessing of the bread loaves) comes from the Germanic people.

So for my Wiccan and NeoPagan friends and readers, the Celts are cool and all, but why not get in touch with your Germanic roots?

Note: If you are Wiccan or NeoPagan and you would like to research your Germanic roots, the NeoPagan religion of Asatru may be of interest to you. Asatru, means "faith in the gods". There are many groups that fall within this heading. Please research each group before you get involved with them as unfortunately there are some groups which are racist. Here is a cool video about Asatru, or modern Germanic Paganism.

In keeping with the Germanic tradition of viewing the Winter Solstice as being a scary time as well as a time for fun, I like to celebrate the day by listening to Lovecraft Solstice Carols as well as watch Christmas-themed horror movies. I'm just weird like that. These Lovecraftian songs are set to traditional Christmas carols but display lyrics befitting the Lovecraftian mythos. I don't have time to explain the mythos of H.P Lovecraft but if you are interested you can research it for yourself. I will share some Lovecraft Solstice carols below so that you too can enjoy this spooky time!

Haunted Pillar In Georgia Demolished

The infamous "Haunted Pillar" of Augusta, GA, is no more. A driver lost control of their vehicle and crashed into it and destroyed it on December 17.

The Haunted Pillar was erected as part of the downtown market in 1829. According to local legend, shortly thereafter a black preacher attempted to give a public sermon but was ordered to leave the premise by police. The preacher then placed his hands on the pillar and cursed the market and the pillar. It wasn't long before a tornado destroyed the market leaving only the pillar that the preacher touched. It is said that anyone who attempted to destroy the pillar would be struck by lightening and killed. It was also believed that anyone who touched the pillar would have bad luck. Threats of bad luck never seemed to scare off the tourists. They loved it and locals just rolled their eyes each time they caught a glimpse of a tourist hugging the pillar.

In reality, this is the third time that a car crash has destroyed the pillar. The city just kept rebuilding it and will probably rebuild it again.

Note: Back in the 1800s many black preachers were also hoodoo men on the side. So it may be that this is what was implied with the preacher's curse on the pillar.

A Warning Against Price-Shopping And Haggling

I feel the need to warn people about price-shopping and haggling over prices with regards to hiring a conjure worker or spell caster. I get my fair share of people who engage in this behavior. It doesn't upset me but it does make me worry that the person is setting themselves up to be scammed.

First, let's talk about respect. It is disrespectful to price-shop and haggle over prices with a worker or spell caster. I purposefully keep my prices reasonable and would prefer to just turn down clients who have unreasonable expectations or who are wanting way too many things that would come with a normal work. It's just easier to turn a person down then attempt to explain that what they are wanting is not doable for my price points and that I would have to charge more unless they modified what they are wanting. So it's disrespectful to to try to price shop and haggle over prices when they are lower than or even consistent with the standard or average price for conjure work.

I have a background in sales. One of the first things I was taught in sales was that people lie and they lie all the time. They lie and say they have no money. They lie and say they can't afford something. They lie and say that the cost is too high. In sales we are taught to recognize when a person is lying and to ignore it and continue on. When a person says they can't afford something or that the price is too high it's usually a combination of unreasonable expectations as well as ignorance. When I write ignorance I do not mean that in a disrespectful way. We, myself included, are all ignorant on something and most of us are ignorant on multiple somethings.

An example of unreasonable expectations can be from a person who thinks they deserve something for free or a person who has come to their own conclusion of what they think a product or service should cost and/or were misled by someone else about how much a product or service should cost. When a person says they can't afford it they are either saying they don't want to pay for it and want it for free or they are saying that they don't want to sacrifice anything else that they spend their money on in order to get this. This last bit is important as the average person spends a great deal of their money on things like eating out, entertainment and trivial purchases.

So let's take the example of a person who says they can't afford it but in reality they are lying and simply do not want to pay for it. Let's take a woman who is a mother of three. Let's say I'm selling a vacuum cleaner. The mother responds that she can't afford $300 for a vacuum cleaner due to her being a mother and due to the holidays. So I immediately know she's lying and I simply ignore her lies and continue on. How do I know she's lying? Because by using the excuse that it's the holidays it tells me that she can afford it but just doesn't want to spend $300 on a vacuum. She has unreasonable expectations and assumptions of what a vacuum cleaner should cost and it's my job to destroy her expectations and maneuver her into realizing she's ignorant, but me doing it in a nice way, of course.

So I destroy her expectations and assumptions by confirming to her that I know what she's doing with her current vacuum. I know it takes forever for her to vacuum her carpet because her vacuum is a piece of shit. How many of you have to reach down and pick up a stupid string that your vacuum can't pick up? You then have to stop and throw the stupid string away or else put it in your pocket to throw away later. You think that having to pick up a string that your vacuum can't get is normal. It's not! A real vacuum cleaner can pick up a stupid string. A piece of shit vacuum cannot. You are wasting your time and are being fooled into thinking that since your vacuum makes a loud noise that it is working. If it can't pick up a stupid piece of string then you vacuum isn't sucking up anything. It's useless. Now imagine having the vacuum I'm selling that actually works and does what it's supposed to. Imagine only making one pass over your carpets, instead of making multiple passes, and finishing the entire home in under 5 minutes. Once a person has their false expectations destroyed then they become educated and see how they truly need this item.

Why do I spend this time with the vacuum cleaner analogy? Because many people who price-shop and haggle are ignorant. Again, not being mean as we are all ignorant on various things. They thing about ignorance is that we don't know that which we are ignorant of. So I have to destroy their expectations and assumptions so that person becomes educated and correctly perceives the situation.

Why is price shopping and haggling so bad? Because people who engage in such are operating under the false expectation that they will receive the same level of service no matter who you go through. You're not! You get what you pay for! People who price shop and haggle think that this protects them from being scammed. It doesn't! In fact, people who price shop and haggle over prices are beacons and magnets for scammers. Because the minute you price shop and haggle you are broadcasting to any scammers that you are a sucker for a lower price. So the scammer will easily give these people a lower price because they recognize that these people are ignorant of how the process works and then take advantage of that ignorance.

So please be careful and please avoid this behavior. Sure, there are instances where a worker or caster may strike a deal with a client. That's fine. However, if you aren't careful then this behavior can lead to the opposite of what you are trying to avoid.

(Back to the vacuum cleaner....I'm 100% honest. The overwhelming majority of people are brainwashed into thinking that if it makes a noise then it's working. The overwhelming majority of people make multiple passes over their carpets and it takes a while to vacuum the entire house. People don't realize that a real vacuum cleaner can pick up a piece of string and that it only takes one pass that's it. A real vacuum makes cleaning a breeze. If you don't have a real vacuum then you are just wasting your time. Don't believe me? Use a carpet shampooer. Do it and be shocked by how dirty the water is. That's due to all the dirt your vacuum is not picking up. You think you are cleaning but you are just wasting your time. You might as well not even vacuum at all. Invest money in a real vacuum cleaner. You will thank me!)

The Magicians

So there's a new show on SyFy about magic called The Magicians. I say new, as I'm a late viewer. Season 1 has already concluded and season 2 will premier on January 25th. The series is based on the book by Lev Grossman. It's a very interesting show that has great potential. I've only just begun watching and will stick around to see how it goes. I will put the season 1 premier synopsis below as a spoiler warning in case there are readers who would like to watch the show.

The series begins when the main characters, and best friends, Quentin and Julia, discover that magic exists when they are selected for potential placement in a magical university. Quentin and Julia are selected for placement because they show signs of latent magical ability. The two are then tested and interviewed as part of the selection process. Quentin passes the tests and gains entry. Julia fails the tests and has her mind erased in order to protect the school. Before a staff member can perform the spell to erase Julia's memories, she slices open her arm and then conceals the wound with her sleeve. After having her memory erased, Julia uses the wound as a clue to unravel the mystery of how she acquired it and is eventually able to regain her memories of the school. She becomes extremely depressed over the fact that she was rejected. With time her depression turns into anger at which point she begins to manifest true magical abilities. She then asks Quentin to help her get into the school.

Events are thrown into chaos when the presence of an unknown evil called "The Beast" reveals itself. The Beast assumes the outward form of a man wearing a suit with the actual flesh, bones, blood, muscles, etc., composed of swarming insects. The Beast murders a staff member and then sets his eyes upon Quentin.

Vintage Lucky Rabbit's Foot

This is my latest acquisition. It's a lucky rabbit's foot dating from the late 1930s. The metal part at the top reads "Good Luck The Wilken Family Inc. Aladdin-Schenley P.O. PA". The Wilken Family was a brand of whisky produced by Schenley distillation from 1935-1964. The lucky rabbit's foot is likely to have been an advertisement piece or used as a gift with purchase.

Probably the most curios aspect of this piece, other than it's age, is it's size. The actual rabbit's foot is only a little over an inch in length. It appears to have been taken from a kit (baby rabbit), which is sad. It's strange to think that this poor bunny died almost 50 years before I was born. Due to it's size this piece would be perfect for inclusion in a mojo bag.

Thrift Store Finds & Cleaning Tip

So yesterday I decided to stop in a local Salvation Army thrift store in my area. This store is really nice. They always have amazing stuff. This visit my eyes land on these really cool cobra candle holders. I got them for a little over $8. I figured they would be good for both protection work and enemy work. I also found two candle holders that are ideal for the 9 inch jumbo candles.

Speaking of jumbo candles....I love them. I think that they are underused in hoodoo. I think that many practitioners are so obsessed with 7 day glass candles that they overlook these powerful candles. Jumbo candles are just like the 6 inch household or offertory candles except they are taller and wider. They are the perfect size to allow a great deal of space to carve names and petitions. Additionally, they can be marked and divided with pins. In fact, jumbo candles are the first 7 day candles, being divided into section with inserted pins. One section would be burned each day for 7 days total. Then the candle is allowed to extinguish itself. Jumbo candles are perfect for burning on the lid of jars in jar work, as well. If you would like to burn them on their own they can be secured to the flat glass candle holders with just a bit of melted wax. Otherwise, a special jumbo candle holder can be used. These jumbo candle holders tend to have a metal spike in the center by which you push the bottom of the candle onto. This secures the candle and prevents it from fallling.

As you can tell from the first picture, the cobra candle holders were very tarnished. I cleaned one of the candle holders to show a difference between the tarnished one (left) and cleaned one (right).

Tarnishing, a.k.a. patina, is good for vintage items of worth. I have some cherub candle holders from the 1800s that have a heavy patina. I would never clean them to remove the patina because doing so would decrease the value. Vintage pieces of value should not have the patina removed because it serves as proof age. However, if you have a newer item that you would like to remove the tarnishing from then you have a couple of choices. The first is to buy a commercial brass cleaner, such as Brasso. These cleaners are generally mild and do a good job. Your second choice is to use what you have at home. You can easily make your own brass cleaner using just two basic ingredients.

Clean the item with soap and water to remove any surface dirt or grease. Dry off piece with a towel. Once dry, wet the item with vinegar or cut a lemon and drizzle on lemon juice. Then sprinkle the item with salt. Rub the salt around on the item. You should immediately see a change in the piece. The tarnish will disappear and the piece will become shinier. Rinse the piece off with water and then dry them with the towel.

Warning: Do not do this for an extended amount of time or submerge the piece in the vinegar. If you do this for an extended amount of time then pink spots may appear on the piece. These pink spots are copper. As soon as you notice that the tarnish has disappeared and the piece is now bright then quickly rinse off the salt and dry the piece.

The Mystic Eye Occult & Book Shop

Found this cool vintage clip of the old "The Mystic Eye Occult & Book Shop" that was on Broadway St. in San Francisco. Not sure of the exact date it was filmed but it was definitely in the 70s. I've heard Anton LaVey used to shop here. There are also rumors that the Zodiac Killer was believed to have a connection to this place.

Python Used For Witchcraft Found

A juvenile python was found in the backyard of a Miami-Dade home. What makes this case unique was that someone had sewn the poor snake's mouth shut. It's been speculated that this animal abuse was done as part of witchcraft.

I agree with the speculation that this was done as part of black magic. Due to the city where this occurred, the witch who did this more than likely has a background in Santeria or Voodou. The snake would be symbolic of an enemy and the sewing of it's mouth would doom the snake to a slow and torturous death from starvation. It would have been done in the belief that as the snake suffered, weakened and then died so shall the enemy as well. Now, it is true that usually items are place inside the snake before the mouth was sewn shut. These items would be along the lines of personal effects and possibly a petition paper. Not much else would have been used as it is difficult to get the snake to swallow such items. It's also important for the snake to remain alive during the ritual as the purpose would be to create a slow weakening and death over time. In the article they mention that nothing else was found inside the snake. I would add that it's possible the snake has already defecated any items it was made to swallow. Another possibility is that the items are still in the python's digestive track. A python's stomach takes up a very large portion of the body and it would be very easy for someone to overlook items inside it. Special attention should be made to see if the snake defecates anything of importance.

This is an example of hardcore witchcraft and should be a reminder that there are evil people in this world. This is not just a revenge spell. This is not justified work. It's a death spell. The person(s) who performed this witchcraft are among the types of insane people whose retaliation against perceived slights is far more severe than the situation calls for. I can guarantee you that the witch who performed this spell was not a newbie and has probably done far worse things to animals as part of their witchcraft. I sincerely hope that the person responsible for this abuse is found and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. I can almost guarantee you that if or when the guilty party is found that it will be revealed that there were many unexplained animal disappearances and/or mutilations in their general area.

Prayer To St. Martin Caballero

From a St. Martin Caballero Eternalux brand Novena Candle:

"In the name of Our Father, Oh, Saint Martin Caballero, bless my home, give me health, work and money. Oh, blessed saint, raise your voice in this dungeon where I am and protect me from all the afflictions of evil. I pledge this day in the memory of your priesthood. Amen. (State your petition)"

Cinnamon Brooms

I really love cinnamon brooms. I try to buy a new one every year. I try to buy one when they first hit the stores in September or early October. They normally arrive before Halloween. I then decorate it with Halloween ribbon and Autumn leaves and use it for decoration. After Halloween I refresh it and remove the Halloween decorations while keeping the Autumn leaves and use it as decoration for Thanksgiving. After Thanksgiving I remove the Autumn leaves, refresh the broom and then decorate it for Christmas. Finally, after Christmas I remove the Christmas decorations and decorate it for New Years with silver and/or gold ribbons and with bells. After New Years I just leave the broom as is until I discard it.

Despite the name, Cinnamon brooms are made from Pine straws. They then are dressed with Cinnamon oil to give them their unique fragrance.

As far as magic goes, Pine is good for both cleansing as well as money-drawing. Cinnamon is good for both love and luck.

Many people would be shocked to learn that you can actually buy these brooms with other scents as well. They are good for both decoration, use as air fresheners, as well us in rituals for both cleansing of people and homes.

Now, if you have ever had a cinnamon broom you realize that the scent will fade with time. Most people just throw them out when the scent fades to practically nothing. I will keep mine until they look ragged and will just refresh them from time to time. There are a couple of ways to refresh them.

The first way is to steam them. Simply boil some water and pass the brooms through the steam. The Pine straws will absorb some of the water vapor and it will repel some of the oil that they had previously absorbed, giving more fragrance. You can freshen your brooms about 2-3 times with this method but then you will notice that it no longer works. That's because you've exhausted the cinnamon oil. You must then use the second method of refreshing the broom.

Get you a pair of a latex gloves and a bottle of cinnamon oil. Make sure to wear the gloves because cinnamon oil can burn your skin.  Pour some in your hands and rub it around. Dress the broom with the oil. You can get sloppy with this and make sure it's really coated good. Set it down on some old newspapers for about an hour or so. Then return to it and then wipe it down with some old newspaper so that it can absorb the excess oil. Then it will be good to go.

Another trick you can use with your broom when the scent has faded it to dress it with a condition oil. You can dress the broom with say protection oil or uncrossing oil and then pray over it and hang it on or above your front door. That way you can have something that is both magical and decorative at the same time and nobody will even know it. In the past I've used this to cleans unsuspecting people who try to enter my house because I got tired of negative energy being dragged into my home.

If you can't find cinnamon brooms in your area or would like to order a broom with another scent, try the website at the link below. They also sell scented pine-cones, wreathes potpourri, as well as their own custom oils.

Super Mom? Sex Trafficking? REALLY?

You know, ever since I heard about this whole Sherri Papini case I was troubled. Nothing made sense. I was hoping that the police were just holding their cards close to their chest while they did a thorough investigation. However, now I think it's far worse.

Sherri Papini was allegedly abducted by 2 Hispanic women for no apparent reason while jogging. They allegedly spoke mostly Spanish and conveniently had their faces covered for almost all of the 3 weeks for which Sherri was missing. Then on Thanksgiving they just decided to let her go.

Almost all of the details about the case are coming from the husband. The police are not releasing anything and they've indicated they are not happy that the husband has given so many media interviews.

Sherri has been described as a "Super Mom" over and over again. I'm not sure what the definition of a super-mom is. I mean, if a woman was single-handedly raising a litter of 12 while juggling a career and meaningful relationship, while managing to give back to the community in her spare time, then I would agree that would make her a super-duper-mom. However, it appears that Sherri took her two kids to daycare in the morning and then just did what she pleased with her day. Not quite sure that deserves an award.

Sherri Papini is routinely described as a "young mother". She's 34 years old. I also don't think that a woman in her 30s meets the criteria to be described as a young mother.

So Sherri is currently in hiding and is not doing any interviews. Her husband is speaking out for her. In fact, pretty much everything we've been told comes directly from him.

He told the public that she was severely injured and practically at death's door, weighing only 87 lbs because her abductors had starved her. Yet, he failed to mention that she was in and out of the hospital in just a few hours. She did not even spend one night in the hospital. Again, we've been told things that don't quite meet the definition. I don't think a woman who is in and out of the hospital meets the definition of being either severely injured or at death's door.

He told us that Sherri had all her hair chopped off and that she was branded with a "message", whatever that means, in an attempt to destroy her beauty. Yeah, right. Again, the problem is the definition. Maybe I'm crazy but when someone tells me that a person has had all her hair chopped off I'm thinking she doesn't have any hair and probably looks really rough. However, the people who called 911 reported seeing her along the highway and said there was a white woman with long blonde hair walking around that appears to be having a medical emergency. So having long blonde hair doesn't quite meet the definition of having all your hair chopped off. Then again, Sherri's convenient absence prevents the public from deciding on if she appears to be injured or had her hair chopped off.

If we take a look at her past then we find some troubling information. There was an online post made in 2003 on a white supremacy message board by someone who was using Sherri's first name and her maiden name as well as being from her home town. In the post this person made racist and violent accusations against Latinos. Then it was discovered that Sherri had a Pinterest page where she allegedly revealed her interests as a gun enthusiast and as a survivalist. Why is this important? Because she is accusing two Hispanic women of abducting and torturing her. Is it just coincidence that someone from her home town had her same name and was talking crap about Latinos?

People close to the family are now saying that the motivation may have been sex trafficking. That's why I lost it. Sex trafficking does indeed take place. There are women who are abducted and forced into prostitution. However, this does not happen in the U.S. The kind of sex trafficking that happens in the U.S. involves young women who are already prostitutes and drug users. Abductors aren't going to target 30 something year old mothers for sex trafficking. They want young girls, teens to early 20s. They definitely would not beat and torture them, chopping off all their hair, and fucking up their face as that would ruin their value.

I think that sometimes I give the authorities too much credit. This may be one of those instances. Because the authorities have now stated that they have no reason to doubt Sherri Papini's claims. Really? No reason to doubt. Hmm. Okay. Maybe I'm just jaded due to all the other similar cases of white women who make up stories and blame it on minorities. Maybe it's just because I don't relate to their Barbie and Ken/perfect family photos. Maybe it's just jealousy over their privileged life. Then again, maybe the police are idiots and have given special treatment to a white woman. Sorry, but I just can't shake the feeling that had Sherri been black that this case would have been wrapped up on the same day she was found, with the authorities calling it a hoax and her being publicly shamed and then having charges pressed against her.

FYI: The Papinis have made a killing off of their Go-Fund-Me account. We know for a fact that they have raised $50k. However, it's been reported that they have now raised over $100k.

Watch the 20/20 interview with the husband and come to your own conclusion of what happened. As for me, I think the reason why Sherri hasn't done any interviews is because the public would know she was not severely injured and did not have her hair chopped off like her husband claimed. So they will give it a few months or so and then do their interviews saying she has now "healed" and was ready to tell her story.

Happy Krampusnacht!

Tonight, December 5, 2016, is Krampusnacht (Krampus Night)!

It's the time of year where that hairy devil, Krampus, comes-a-knocking to snatch up bad boys and girls for supper or else whip them with birch sticks. And all this time you thought that the punishment for bad boys and girls was just to get a lump of coal for Christmas!

Krampus is the dark-counterpart of St, Nicholas or Santa Clause. He proceeds Santa's visit, punishing bad children before Santa comes to reward the good little boys and girls.

In appearance, Krampus is quite hairy, is horned, and has only one cloven hoof with the other foot being of normal appearance. He carries a bundle of birth sticks to punish bad boys and girls and a sack on his back to abduct the children he preferred to take home to consume for dinner.

At this time of year it was once traditional for young adults to send Krampus greeting cards with quaint and humor-filled images of the devil Krampus scaring, whipping, or abducting bad boys and girls. It was a tongue-and-cheek method of letting the recipient know that they were about to get their just rewards!

One of my favorite postcards was of a young couple making out, only to have Krampus jump out with birch twigs in hand to beat them for their public displays of affection.

It is also traditional for communities in various European countries to Krampusnacht parades where people dressed up as Krampus or other dark minions. It's sort of like Halloween in December.

So beware little ones! The big bad monster is out tonight!

Spiritual Middens and Spiritual Caches

In my past few blog entries I have written about using various items as spiritual decoys/dummies and/or spirit traps. This next blog is a continuation of such topic.

Archaeologists use the terms "Spiritual Midden", "Spiritual Cache", or just "Cache" to refer to the finding of concealed items within old structures. The word "midden" means trash or garbage, items of little to no worth, and that is exactly what they are. When one thinks of finding a hidden horde one immediately envisions gold, silver, money, jewelry, bank bonds, coins, or other valuables. So imagine the surprise of archaeologists to discover vast collections of rubbish that were purposefully hidden by their owners for a reason that they at first could not fathom. Many spiritual middens were simply thrown away or destroyed long before their true purpose was made known.

Technically, a spiritual midden can contain literally anything. However, the most often finds in a spiritual midden are clothing. The clothing is used as a spiritual decoy/dummy to draw the spiritual attack so that it takes the hit and the person whom the clothing belonged to is spared. Here are some things to keep in mind if you would like to use clothing as a spiritual decoy/dummy.

1. The clothing must be old. New clothes won't work.

2. The clothing should be soiled or unwashed, so that it retains the essence of the person.

3. If the garment normally comes in pairs, such as socks, gloves, etc., usually only one of the pair is used. This is similar to the practice of using shoes as a spiritual decoy/dummy.

4. If a garment is found by itself, which is rare, then it's just the use of a garment as a spiritual decoy/dummy. If a garment is found in conjunction with another item or items then it is labeled a spiritual midden. The size of a spiritual midden can vary from anything from two items to 500 items, in the largest spiritual midden found to date.

5. The clothing is not fixed when employed. Therefore there is nothing in it to "cut or kill" the evil.

6. The clothing does not operate as a spiritual trap. Instead, it's just a decoy.

7. Clothing or garments are employed by concealing them in the same places as other spiritual decoys/dummies. The fireplace, mantle, doorways, windows, in walls, foundations, etc.

8. If you should stumble upon a spiritual midden on an old property you can notify your local university or museum. Or you can chose to add to continue the practice by adding one of your own garments to the midden.

9. As with other spiritual decoys/dummies, secrecy is key to it's successfulness. Never tell another person that you have created a spiritual midden or where the midden is located.

Other than clothing, shoes, which I blogged upon in a separate bog entry, as perhaps the second most frequently found item in a spiritual midden. Rarer items would include anything from coins to paper documents and children's toys.

Personally, I'm not a fan of using clothing or garments as a spiritual decoy/dummy, simply because they aren't fixed and they don't act to trap the spirit or evil. Sure, one can fix them up so that they would act to cut or kill the evil but such wouldn't be a traditional use. I admit they may act as a temporary diversion for evil. However, I would think that an intelligent spirit would quickly be able to see through the ruse. To each their own.

2,000 Year Old Tablet May Be Oldest Reference To Jesus

A 2,000 year old codex has been discovered which may make it the oldest reference to Jesus. However, the find is not without controversy. When deciphered the text revealed that Jesus was not looking to start a new religion, rather he was simply trying to undo religious reformation that happened after the time of Solomon. During the time of Solomon and King David, the Hebrew people viewed God to be hermaphroditic, being both male and female. Soon after, religious reformation took place that purged all belief and reference to God having a feminine side. If the codex turns out to be legitimate, it would mean that Jesus was trying to restore the belief that God was both male and female.

Shoes As Spiritual Decoys And Spirit Traps

Shoes are extremely powerful personal concerns and much good and evil work can be done with them. In hoodoo, most people are familiar with shoes as an extension of "foot track magic". Many people may not realize that the use of shows as spiritual decoys/dummies, or even as spirit traps, is incredibly ancient.

The concealing or depositing of shoes as a spiritual decoy/dummy or spirit trap is one of the oldest ways of working with shoes. To date, the finding of the oldest example of such work has been dated as being performed in the 14th century. This practice is hundreds of years old. Though it's been claimed that the practice went extinct back in the early-to-mid 20th century, I'm personally inclined to think that it actually still survives to this day.

What makes a shoe powerful as a personal concern is the fact that shoes are generally unwashed, meaning they have taken on the essence of their wearer, the person's sweat and skin cells. The strong stench of an old pair of shoes is evidence of it's power as a personal concern. Additionally, shoes actually will form a mold of the wearer's feet. Take an old pair of shoes and carefully explore the inside. You will see indentations indicating the presence of the big toe, as well as the other toes, not to mention the heel. Even a person who is flat-footed will leave their unique imprint of such condition in the shoe. So shoes become a powerful marker and link to their wearer.

When employing shoes one should keep a just a few things in mind.

1. They need to be old. New shoes won't work.

2. Only one shoe is needed. The majority of all finds of shoes used as spiritual decoys have been of only one shoe.

3. The majority of the finds of these shoes have been of the left shoe and far more women's and children's shoes have been found than men's shoes. However, the weird thing about this is that they are often found in locations, such as building foundations, that women would not have easy access to. Therefore, it's believed that this practice may have been most often performed by men. In fact, my own personally belief is that not only would this action be done by men for the protection of their family but also it might have been done to ensure that a man's wife stays with him and doesn't leave him.

3. Shoes do not need to be fixed. Do not place anything inside them. In fact, to do so would be to actually negate their ability to protect you.

4. Place them in the same places one would deposit or employ a spiritual decoy, such as; fireplaces or mantels, hearths, inside walls, buried near the front door, windows, etc.

5. Because the shoes are not fixed there is nothing in them that will cut or "kill" the evil. Instead, shoes serve as spirit traps, meaning that witches, their familiars or other evil spirits will go inside them and not be able to come out again. Because of such, it is extremely important that once deposited they should never be disturbed. To disturb them would mean risking setting free the evil that has been trapped.

6. Never tell anyone about the presence of the shoes nor disclose where they have been concealed. To do so would immediately reverse their ability to protect you.

7. If you find an old shoe in an out of the way place in your home, do not remove it! The custom is to always keep it intact but then add your own next to it. Remember, the shoe acts as a trap. So if you disturb it then you would be setting the evil free to now plague your family. Simply add your own shoes next to the find and keep the tradition going. Just makes sure you keep it secret.

Interestingly, this practice of concealing shoes as spiritual decoys and spirit traps has been documented not only all over Europe, but also in the U.S. it can be found both in New England and the South. I do not know if Harry Middleton Hyatt ever recorded this or similar practices as I have not personally searched his work for this material. However, I would be shocked if it did not appear in some form. If anyone knows of examples in Hyatt's work then feel free to leave a comment letting me know.

Making A Doll Baby For Use As A Spiritual Decoy

Just like one can make a witch bottle to act as a spiritual decoy or dummy in order to protect one from witchcraft or spiritual attack, one can also use a doll baby to the same effect. In fact, for many people doll babies may be preferred over other methods due to the fact that they more closely resemble the human form. I've used multiple methods of making spiritual decoys and I can state that using doll babies are effective. However, it should be stated that they take longer to create if one makes them from scratch.

In order to make a doll baby for this purpose you will either have to create one from scratch, like was done in the old days, or use a commercially bought "voodoo doll" or a doll baby. [Just a bit of trivia....a "doll baby" is a doll that is in the shape of a baby. A "baby doll" is a baby that is as beautiful as a doll!]

If you are making a doll baby from scratch then I would recommend using the unwashed clothing of the person from whom the doll is being made for to make the doll's body. If you can't do this then at least use it as stuffing for the doll.

Making A Doll Baby For Use As A Spiritual Decoy

-Unwashed clothing from the person whom the doll is meant to represent (or a commercially bought "voodoo doll" or child's doll baby)
-Hair from the crown of head
-Fingernail clippings from right hand
-Fingernail clippings from left hand
-Armpit hair from under both arms (if male or if a woman doesn't shave)
-Pubic hair
-Toenail clippings from right foot
-Toenail clippings from left foot
-Dead skin (The heel is a good place to get a sample from)
-*A cloth heart with drops of blood (can substitute menstrual blood if female)
-1 razor blade
-*1 magnet or lodestone to draw any attack directed toward the person to the doll
-*1 black stone (obsidian, jet, black tourmaline, etc.)
-Needle, thread and scissors
-Buttons or other items for decoration

Cut out the pattern for the doll out of unwashed clothing or else use other cloth of your choice and then use the unwashed clothing as stuffing. Sew it up, leaving the head open, and turn it inside out and then stuff it. You will need to put the personal concerns and ingredients in their proper, corresponding places in the doll. So for example, put the right hand nail clippings in the right hand or arm of the doll baby. The ingredients marked with a "*" are optional. Place the cloth heart, magnet or lodestone, razor blade, and black stone in the center of the doll baby. Spit in the doll head and then sew it up. You will then baptize the doll baby, pray and/or state your petition over it and then deploy it for use.

Note: If you are using a child's doll baby then aim for the kind that has a soft center. You can make a slit in the center and stuff the doll with your ingredients and then sew it up.

Note: If you are going to include a cloth heart with drops of your blood in the doll, try to obtain the blood by pricking the 4th finger of your left hand. This is a special place that is believed to link with your heart. It can be done quite painlessly and you can even buy diabetic lancets that are painless to use as well. Just use them to prick your finger and then squeeze the finger until the blood flows.

Note: Black stones have the power to absorb and dissipate evil and negativity. It doesn't matter if it's a specific type, such as obsidian, jet, onyx, or black tourmaline. Any black or dark colored stone from nature will do the trick as well. Remember, these don't repel evil as that's not how a spiritual decoy or dummy works. We want the doll to be mistaken for the person it represents so that it takes the hit and not the person.

Note: If preferred you can make a doll baby out of wax, clay, Play Doh, homemade playdough, or paper mache clay. Just keep in mind that these items may not be as durable as constructing one from cloth. Below are two recipes for homemade playdough and paper mache clay.

Kitchen Clay

1 1/2 cups of flour (no self-rising)
1/2 cup of table salt
1/2 cup of water (warm)
A few drops of liquid dish soap (any kind)
*Food Colors (optional)

Mix ingredients together in a bowl with a spoon. If the mixture is too wet, add more flour. If the mixture is too dry, add more water. Store the clay in an air-tight container or else keep in a zip-lock bag. If you wish to color your clay then add food coloring to the water before mixing. This clay does not hold intricate details well and often will crack when drying. Once dried, this clay can be painted or decorated as you like. The dried piece will be fine as long as you do not get it wet. If it gets wet it can dissolve and promote the growth of bacteria and mold.

Paper Mache Clay Recipe

Tear pieces of newspaper into extremely small pieces. Soak in hot water overnight. You can then add the mixture to a blender or food processor if you want in order to get a finer texture. In a separate bowl, combine equal portions of flour and water and mix until you get the consistency of glue. You can also just use glue if you prefer. Mix the pulp with the flour/water or glue mixture until you form a clay. Use the paper mache clay to form your dolly. Once dried it can be painted or decorated as you prefer.

Remember that as a spiritual decoy the doll baby can only work if it is in front of you and the oncoming evil. So if you place the doll baby behind your door and then are attacked while out shopping, then the doll can't protect you. So use these in conjunction with additional protective measures. You can make more than one. Once you deposit them you do not need to remove them and cleanse them. The razor blade and the black stone will cut/kill and dissipate the evil. Traditional places to employ or deposit them include the fireplace, a place of entry for supernatural beings, mantel, near doorways or windows, and inside walls. If you are incapable of deploying them in such areas then conceal them in other areas of your home. Do not display them out in the open as any enemy who can steal them will have your personal concerns to attack you with. If you want to bury them then the act of burying will also serve to ground the evil and negative energy. You can also bury or deploy them in a quincunx pattern in the four corners of your home and then once concealed in the center of your home, if you so choose.

An 18th Century Recipe For A Witch Bottle

This is a real treat. It's a real recipe for a witch bottle that dates back to the 1700s. This recipe involves heating the bottle over time, a seemingly novel approach. Why was the bottle heated? Well, some may argue that the bottle was heated to harm the witch. That may be so. However, if we take into account that the witch bottle is meant as a spiritual decoy or dummy, then perhaps heating the bottle is another means to mimic life, as in urine from a body is warm. It also may be that the heating of the bottle is meant to "heat up the work", as in to make it work faster and stronger. Perhaps all three reason are valid and correct. What's interesting is that the recipe talks about preventing your enemies from harming you but it's clear that the enemies references are in fact witches and people using black magic against you.

Bellarmine Jugs

The above are three Bellarmine jugs in my collection. They date from the 1800s to the early/mid 1900s. The most expensive and highly sought Bellarmines date from the 1500s through the 1700s.

Bellarmine Jugs, a.k.a. Bellarmines, Bartmann (bearded man) Jugs, or Greybeards, is a style of stoneware jug, that usually has at least one handle and is corked. The most distinctive feature of the bottles is the older, bearded, male face that is found slightly below the neck of the bottle. This style of bottle originated in the 16th century and was popular for around 200 years. Bellarmine jugs were primarily used to store liquor. It's the "second life" of the Bellarmines that is of importance here. That second life was for the creation and employment as a "witch bottle".

The popular name of Bellarmine is in fact a reference to St. Robert Bellarmine, a notorious Catholic inquisitor and enemy of Protestantism. It was long assumed that due to the name that the face portrayed on the bottles was in fact his. This belief is incorrect as the bottles originated before his birth.

Of all the old witch bottles recovered from old houses and property in Europe, over half of the bottles were Bellarmines. It appears that Bellarmine jugs were the preferred container to use when creating a witch bottle. As far as why this is so, there are many opinions. Some have argued that the bearded face acts as an apotropaic charm to scare off evil. This may be true of the Bellarmines produced in the 17th century, as such tend to portray very grotesque faces. However, the original Bellarmines produced in the 16th century portrayed a normal face.

I favor two reasons why these Bellarmines were the preferred bottle of choice. The first reason is that the inclusion of the face made the bottles anthropomorphic. Since witch bottles are designed to protect a specific person this anthropomorphic bottle would have been viewed as superior than the standard variety. The second reason is that these bottles just look cool! Many of them have a spookiness aspect to them which may have been viewed as being ideal for usage as a witch bottle.

Now, when discussing witch bottles I need to state that there is a lot of misinformation online. Much of the misinformation stems from the self-styled witches of modern times who tend to not understand what a real witch bottle is and how to make one. The term "witch bottle" is not a synonym for "spell bottle" or "bottle spells". A witch bottle is not a bottle made by a witch.

To confuse matters even more, there are three different types of witch bottles. I'll list them below.

1. The Fake Witch Bottles - These are made by modern witches and contain any number and type of ingredients. They usually include herbs and gemstones believed to possess protective qualities. These bottles are often decorated quite beautifully. Many of them are designed to be displayed openly in the home or area. I'm not saying that these bottles don't work or don't have power. By listing them as fake I'm stating that they have no connection to the old, traditional witch bottles. The people who make these types of witch bottles mistakenly believe that a witch bottle is a bottle made by a witch. Included in this category are also things such as honey jars, vinegar jars, break-up jars, etc. People who may claim that these are witch bottles mistakenly believe that the term "witch bottle" is a synonym for any type of spell that incorporates a bottle.

2. Blue Glass Witch Bottles - These do have a history of use. The color blue has a very long history of belief that it can protect against the evil eye as well as evil spirits. So although I accept that these can be called witch bottles I must add they don't act the same as a traditional witch bottle.

3. True Or Traditional Witch Bottles - A true or traditional witch bottle is used not to repel or drive away witches and evil spirits. Instead, a traditional witch bottle is created to act as a spiritual decoy or dummy, taking the full brunt of the spiritual attack so that the person that it represents is spared harm.

From analysis of the contents of old witch bottles recovered in Europe and in colonial America, we know that the overwhelming majority of them contained just 3-4 basic ingredients. Those ingredients are:

-Hair and/or nail clippings
-Iron pins and/or needles

That's it! In rare cases items such as the following have been found;

-Chicken bones
-Slivers of wood
-Cloth heart

I'm going to go over these ingredients and share with you a very interesting observation I had concerning the inclusions of urine.

Of the basic ingredients used, hair and nail clippings are personal concerns from the person that the bottle is mean to act as a spiritual decoy or dummy for. The iron pins/needles and urine are very intriguing.

So I would like my readers to ponder why urine was used. Just think about that. Of all the personal concerns one can use why is it that urine is used so frequently? Pause reading here and think about it for a while before scrolling down and continuing
It is my personal opinion that the reason why urine was so frequently used was because people of this time period were plagued with UTI's (Urinary Tract Infections) and STDs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases) . Can you imagine how painful it must have been for women back then? Think about how you would get buy having constant battles with UTI's and without there being any antibiotics or pain medicine available to remedy it? It must have been excruciating. Top that with rampant STDs and it's hard not to think that everyone must have experienced routine burning, painful urination. Now, I'm not female and I've never had an STD. However, I've been told that having and STD causes not only burning sensation while urinating, but also a type of shooting pain that feels like sharp pins or needles are being stabbed into your urethra. Could this be the reason that urine and pins/needles were used? Were people trying to inflict or reverse the same pain they felt back to the witch they believed was causing such pain? Or was the inclusion of urine meant for the evil to attack it instead of the urine in the person's body, to stop painful urination? Can you blame people back then for thinking that UTIs and STDs must be the work of witchcraft?

With regard to the pins and needles used, such were made from iron. Iron has a long history of possessing magical protection against the supernatural. Also, the pins and needles were often purposefully bent before being placed into the bottle. Why? This practice is also very old. It's a form of sacrifice. It dates back to pagan times where gifts for the gods were purposefully bent or broken so that they no longer had value to mortals. For example, a sword may be bent or broken in two before being cast into a river as a gift to the river god. So the bending of the pins and needles is a similar form of practice. By bending them they can no longer be used as regular pins or needles. It should also be stated that pins and needles were somewhat expensive.

Additionally, pins and needles are sharp. Pins and needles may have been used as replacements for knives or blades. The belief is that the sharpness "cuts" the evil or witchcraft, killing it. Since a knife or blade usually won't fit down the narrow neck of a bottle, pins and needles may have been chosen as substitutes.

Moving on to the rarer ingredients recovered from old witch bottles, slivers of wood and thorns are substitutes for the needles and pins. They too are sharp. All three may represent the pain of UTIs and STDs. Or the slivers of wood, thorns and needles/pins may have been used to "cut" and destroy the evil. Maybe it was both at the same time.

The inclusion of bones, usually chicken bones, could be because the cock was a solar symbol, with the cock's crow symbolizing sunrise. Witches and witchcraft belonged to the night, the time of darkness. So sunlight itself was deemed protective as it drove darkness away. Or it could be that the inclusion of chicken bones was an attempt to trick the witch or evil spirit into believing that the victim was already dead. Maybe the answer is both as well.

The most curious inclusion was the cloth heart. Again, these are among the rare items found in witch bottles. I'm curious to know if researchers have had the cloth hearts tested. My personal belief would be that the cloth heart would have had drops of blood from the person the bottle was made for on it. That's just what I would do. Or it could be that the cloth used to make the heart was in fact an unwashed piece of clothing from the person whom the bottle represented. Maybe both as well.

What we don't find as ingredients in these witch bottles are things like herbs, roots, gemstones, and the like, the kind of things that modern, self-styled witches use. The reason being is because these bottles are decoys for specific people and are not meant to repel or drive away evil.

It should be stated that Bellarmines were never popular for use as witch bottles in the U.S. Instead, witch bottles in the U.S. tended to be made of ceramic or glass. They did work their way into hoodoo and were recorded by Harry Middleton Hyatt. Hyatt also recorded various ways to identify or kill witches that often employed the use of urine. So perhaps the belief that UTIs and STDs were caused by witchcraft was a idea that spread and was still active in the U.S. at the time that Hyatt was conducting his interviews. It should be noted that neither Hyatt nor his informants call these things "witch bottles", but the ingredients and purpose are the same.

If you are interested in creating your own witch bottles to use as spiritual decoys or dummies then below are a couple of recipes that I have personally used. I was going to withhold the second recipe, considering it one of goodies from my "bag-o'-tricks" but then thought, "what the hell" might as well share it.

Traditional Bellarmine Witch Bottle

-1 Bellarmine Jug (or plain jug or bottle)
-Hair and/or nail clippings
-9 bent nails  and/or pins
-Urine (about a shot glass full)

Modern Bellarmine Witch Bottle

-1 Bellarmine Jug (or plain jug or bottle)
-Hair from the crown of the head
-Nail clippings from each finger on the right hand
-Nail clippings from each finger on the left hand
-Underarm hair from each armpit (if male or a woman who doesn't shave)
-Pubic hair
-Nail clipping from each toe on the right foot
-Nail clipping from each toe on the left foot
-Dead skin (the heel is a good place to take it from)
-Cloth heart made from one's unwashed clothing and containing drops of one's blood (women can use their menstrual blood if they so choose)
-Urine (about a shot glass full)
-1 magnet or lodestone (to draw anything thrown at you or sent to you toward it instead of hitting you)
-1 razor blade (to cut and kill the evil)
-*1 black stone (obsidian, jet, black tourmaline, etc.) [This is optional. Black stones work by not repelling evil but by absorbing it and neutralizing it.\

I fix my Bellarmines similarly to mojo hands, mainly that I pray and state my petition over them, spit into the bottles, breath into them, and then seal them before inhaling. Once fixed they are ready for use and can be buried or concealed in the home or on the property.

I can attest that these witch bottles do indeed work. However, the key is to understand how they work and how to properly employ them. Just constructing them is not going to help you. You have to know how to properly employ them.

Do not store these out in the open. They have your personal concerns in them. If you keep them out in the open then any enemy can steal them and have some powerful stuff to use against you.

Witch bottles were employed by burying them on the property or concealing them in the house. Evil and witchcraft love to take certain paths into your home. One of these paths was through the fireplace [Note that's how Santa Clause gains entry to the home. The fireplace was viewed as an entrance for the supernatural]. So this explains why many old witch bottles have been found in chimneys and fireplace mantels. You can create multiple witch bottles and bury one near the front door and others in concealed locations around the home. Pay attention to all means of entry, such as windows and vents. If possible, make one for each room.

When under spiritual attack, the evil or witchcraft is going to make a rush toward you. Ideally, you will want the witch bottle to be between you and the evil. That way the evil will sense the bottle first and mistake it for you. If the witch bottle is not in front of you and the oncoming evil then it won't be able to take the hit for you. So keep that in mind. Also note that when you are not at home you remain vulnerable to attack. So employ witch bottles in conjunction with other means of personal protection. Finally, once you deposit and employ your witch bottle you do not need to dig it up or take it out to refresh it in any way. As long as you included something to cut or kill the evil it will continue to work the rest of your life. If you buried it then the evil will be grounded and made harmless. If you want to move you can chose to dig them up and take them with you but it's not necessary. You can always just remake more once you settle in to your new home. People have only found the old witch bottles because the owners did not disturb them once they were in use.

Note: Witch bottles will protect against both witchcraft and lower level spirits. Spirits that are more intelligent may be able to see through this ruse and can still attack a person. That's why additional means of protection should be used along with witch bottles.
